Perfect Timing: “O’Clock” Design Exhibition Travels From Milan To Beijing

Organized In Conjunction With Haute Horlogerie Officine Panerai

O'Clock

This March, Milan’s Triennale Design Museum will present a new edition of its exhibition O’Clock – Time Design, Design Time, traveling from Milan to the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing. Exposing local audiences to Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola’s exploration of the relationship between time and design, O’Clock is curated by Silvana Annicchiarico and Jan van Rossem. Co-organizer and haute horlogerie watch brand Officine Panerai will grace the opening ceremony with an installation of rare timepieces.

The Beijing edition of O’Clock is expected to include an expanded, updated selection of works showcasing China’s newly emerging and already established design potential. A wide-ranging display of original site-specific works, installations, design objects, works of art and videos by international artists and designers address topics and themes such as the passage of time, time’s evolution, and decay over time in ways that are “ironic, poetic, meditative, and critical.”

O’Clock comes to China at an interesting time, as the country has not only become home to a new growing generation of forward-thinking artists and designers, but also the site of an unwavering interest in luxury watches and fierce competition between foreign and domestic watchmakers. As a recent report by the Digital Luxury Group (DLG), Europa Star and the Luxury Society pointed out, Chinese interest in high-end timepieces remains high and growing, which makes O’Clock an exhibition to watch — no pun intended — this season.
