Exhibition Watch: ON/OFF At Beijing’s Ullens Center for Contemporary Art

The Most Comprehensive Survey To Date Of Post-1975 Chinese Artists

ON|OFF

Kicking off its 2013 program, Beijing’s Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) presents “ON | OFF: China’s Young Artists in Concept and Practice,” the most comprehensive survey to date of the generation of artists born after the death of Mao and the end of the Cultural Revolution. Curated by Bao Dong and Sun Dongdong, ON | OFF encompasses all of UCCA’s exhibition spaces and includes 50 commissioned works by 50 artists and artist groups including Birdhead, Chen Yujun and Chen Yufan, and Wang Guangle, all of whom have explored the binary push and pull of China’s ever-evolving environment through various mediums.

ON | OFF will be accompanied by a full calendar of events, including a lecture series, a documentary screening, and a concert series including SEE / SAW: Collective Practice in China Now, Self-made · Self-said, and Discrepancy and Commonalities: Regarding the Particularities of Artistic Practice. ON | OFF will also be complemented by two publications, “ON | OFF: Collective Practice in China 2002-2012″ and “ON | OFF: China’s Young Artists in Concept and Practice.”
