Traditionally Biggest Spending Season Of Year

From pop-up stores to mini-movies, limited edition items to flagship decor, luxury brands went out of their way to cater to Chinese consumers at home and tourists abroad in celebration of the year of the snake. Despite Beijing’s current push for more modest spending among government officials in particular, sales at shops and restaurants in mainland China increased 14.7 percent from February 9-15, lower than the 16.2 percent rise year-on-year seen last year, yet the spending power of wealthy shoppers was definitely on show overseas during Chinese New Year. As CCTV shows this week, Chinese consumers buoyed retailers in high-end hotspots like Beverly Hills:
